A Neat New Tool

Have you heard of Grammarly?

While I am admittedly a far cry from a grammar connoisseur, I do consider myself well versed and competent in that arena. I was fortunate to have exceptional English teachers who helped me to build a foundation, and I’m able to keep the skills sharp in my work each and every day as my job is to articulate complex technical concepts into something a bit more digestible.

That said, I would imagine that proofreading your own writing is challenging even for the top tier editors – it’s certainly a challenge for me – and for those of us who are not English professors or grammar experts a second set of eyes is a welcome gift. Advertised as being able to eliminate over 250 types of grammatical mistakes while also catching contextual spelling errors and poor vocabulary usage, Grammarly’s biggest win comes in the fact it’s installed as a simple browser extension. This means that if you are writing a post on Facebook, answering an email, or typing in Google Docs doing a quick Grammarly check is effortless. You can see more about it in the promotional video below:

Overall, I’m prepared to give Grammarly a solid four-star rating. It isn’t essential, and I don’t think it can replace a competent human proofreader; however, as an extra set of eyes Grammarly is nearly always able to catch a mistake or suggest a better phrasing of my thought making it well worth the time to install the extension.

P.S. If you’d like to try the Premium version for a week you can use my referral link here but make sure to use this link to create an account, or you won’t get your free week. Happy writing!
