DIY All-Natural Shower Melts!

I’m a big believer in the practice of treating yourself.  It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant – making time to get your workout in, getting a fancy green juice to look forward to on Monday morning, having fresh flowers on the kitchen table or – one of my personal favorites – a long, warm, indulgent bath.  Such baths are a treat but generally reserved for the weekend when I can spend a few hours meandering around as I get ready for the day.  My daily shower got the job done but it was far from “treating myself”.  I set out in search of something – anything – that would elevate the daily shower and came across these shower melts on A Beautiful Mess.

Comprised of all natural ingredients, they couldn’t be easier to make (probably with things you already have in the kitchen!) and they successfully transform my bathroom into a heavenly smelling spa each morning.  To make, mix 1/2 cup baking soda with 1/2 cup cornstarch in a small bowl.  Add 5 tablespoons of witch hazel and mix until you have a thick putty.  I’ve found it’s much easier to mix directly with my hands than with a spoon.  To complete, add the essential oils of your choice.  I went with 12-15 drops of sweet orange, 40 drops of eucalyptus, and 20 drops of peppermint.  MMMM!  So refreshing.  I also added 1/8 tsp of spirulina to give it the beautiful mint color but that’s completely optional.  Once you’ve got everything well mixed, place into an ice cube tray and leave in the freezer overnight.  I’ve tried to make them in smaller, cute silicon molds but they really need to be at least the size of a standard ice cube to stay together.  Words to the wise ? If you really wanted to get fancy, you could get a large silicone mold in a cute shape, rather than the basic ice cube tray.  To help them last longer I keep them in a mason jar in the fridge; when I’m ready to use, I simply place one melt out of the direct stream of the shower and allow the essential oils to diffuse into the savory steam surrounding you.  It’s truly magical I’m telling you.  Wishing you a beautiful morning that’s now full of one more moment of joy.
