T.G.I.F ~ 5/26

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!!  It’s supposed to be 80 degrees all weekend, my brother is home, and it’s a long weekend.  Life does not get better than this.  Hope your weekend is shaping up to be just as wonderful!

Thought:  I adored this print from a nursery tour I saw earlier this week.  What a beautiful sediment to have a child grow up repeating because there’s no doubt in my mind that our world would be better if more took that simple idea to heart.

Gist: I feel incredibly fortunate to have not experienced much of the sexist behavior described in this article at any of my workplaces, but there are many points presented here that I do identify with.  As the only female engineer at my previous company and the only female in my department at my current company, there’s a lot to be said for the simple feeling of knowing you are different than everyone else in the room at all times.  We all know fewer women choose to enter STEM fields, but this article also suggests that women leave the field at twice the rate men do.  I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the solution and if I’m honest, I’m not sure what we can do to fix this imbalance but I do know that awareness is a fabulous first step.

Image: My sweet husband had a gorgeous bouquet of my favorite flowers made for me for my birthday this week – daisies because it’s the first flower I was ever given (by my daddy) and peonies because I find their tissue paper delicacy enchanting.

Find:  Check out our awesome peace sign, neon light that we got last week.  A complete impulse buy at a boutique in downtown Olympia, I love the funky vibe it lends to our otherwise classic home.
